Behind the Scenes: Bray & Amber Award

Taking the Winter 2009 Tribe Awards & breaking 'em down to "Tribe" references so you can see what each award refers to, then the defining moment that resulted in a character receiving this award.

Behind the Scenes: Bray & Amber "Happy Families" Award

All right, you'll never convince me that guys--teenage guys--don't nest. Of course they do! From the 1st time we saw Bray back in "Tribe" Season One, that's exactly what he was doing. In the middle of all that chaos, Bray was focused on finding a safe place for Trudy to have her baby (which was Bray's brother Martin's baby, lest we forget). Why else was he drawn to the Mallrats? A safe haven tucked away in the mall away from the looting and scavenging and killing and all. It was family time...the man was out to find a family. It got even worse when it was Amber who was pregnant and Bray the one who was the dad.

Being drawn to family is normal in the midst of crazies. After 7 long game seasons, it's looking like that's finally the zone KTDARPG is in. For the "Happy Families Award" this time, we have more game-couples in solid, long-term relationships than we've ever had.

  • Tristan & Cecily, married with a home & business
  • Vincent & Valentine, solidly, publicly in love & committed to each other as partners in everything
  • Prince & Eve, living together and loving and hoping to actually build a life if Prince can get Eve back from the stranger who kidnapped her
  • Zero & Jade, a totally magick couple quietly building a life in the attic at Home
For good measure here I'm going to toss in Moss & Alexis who are brother and sister who joined the game right at the end of Season-7, still close family and still taking care of each other (unlike those brothers Urick & Marionette and Blasko & Tristan, for whom I'm pretty sure they invented the word "dysfunctional"). I'm not going to pull in Hawk & Creed though, who seem like they're in the middle of a meltdown.

If strong relationships is a new trend in the game, we definitely approve.

Behind the Scenes: "Bray Award"

Behind the Scenes: Taking the Winter 2009 Tribe Awards & breaking 'em down to "Tribe" references so you can see what each award refers to, then the defining moment that resulted in a character receiving this award.
Behind the Scenes: "Bray Award"

"The Tribe" Season One didn't really take off until a tall, quiet stranger came on the scene accompanied by a very pregnant girl. Bray held your attention the minute he showed up, and he kept you intrigued by his loner, brooding ways. You were never quite sure what his story was, or his motivations, or even much of who he was. That wound up being the fun part, finding it all out step by step.

The winter "Bray Award" for mystery man with a past coming out of nowhere goes to Domino. This tall, good-looking, dark-haired, one-eyed, self-described trader/smuggler apparently has been in Fort River awhile. Although hidden. He knows the city players, knows the balance of power, and probably even knows where most of the bones are buried. We've only touched the surface of the secrets he carries...like the fact that he's a father. It'll be interesting to see what's still in store for us.

Congratulations on your award, Domino, and welcome to the city. We look forward to seeing what's to come.

Behind the Scenes: "Amber Award"

I always get questions about our game's "Tribe Awards"--what they are, why characters won the awards they did? We just had award presentations for Winter 2009, so here I can get specific. For my next several posts, I'll take the winter awards & break 'em down. I'll give you "The Tribe" references so you can see what each award refers to & how our game recalls some very special people & moments from one very special show. Along the way, I hope to give you more insight into our game too, maybe encourage you to check us out?

Let's start from the top and see where these awards take us, through "The Tribe" and through the "Keep The Dream Alive" roleplaying game.

Behind the Scenes: "Amber Award"

In "The Tribe," Amber was the perfect tribe leader. She cared about individuals, about the tribe as a whole, & about being fair. She wanted to see everyone get along & work together. It was funny--and oh so obvious--that she made a better Mallrats leader than Lex. It was no surprise the Ecos chose her to lead their tribe too. Later, Mega would strong-arm her into being the public "city leader" to the city kids (though he would be in the background threatening her kid & pulling her strings) because they trusted she would be fair, would tell them the truth, and would actually care what happened to them.

In our game, that pretty much describes Arianna, tribe leader of the Misfits. She didn't exactly want to be leader; the job kind of fell in her lap & she's always done the best she could. The very things that make her a good tribe leader have also made the city respect her. In the past, for example, it was Arianna & the Misfits who made sure all the city kids got the antidote when the 2nd virus was released.

Recently, Ari joined Valentine & Jade to help the kids of Fort River by opening a City Shelter & free clinic. When she isn't at home taking care of her baby Saphire & the Misfits, or when she isn't busting her buns working for a living at the Mirage, you can usually find Ari at the shelter taking care of the kids & trying to help them toward a better life.

The life of a tribe leader isn't an easy one. Our Arianna has stayed the course through 7 game seasons, and we don't see her changing all that much. She genuinely believes in the Misfits, in Fort River's future, and in the kids who will make that future possible.

Congrats, Ari! You deserved this award!

Hiatus

I know, I know... It's been a harsh winter in a whole lotta ways & it's kept me focused on real-life stuffs. Can't be helped. Sometimes ya just gotta deal with what is before you can get back to the fun. So nope. I'm not gone. Just on a sort of hiatus that can't last too much longer. I'll be back, guys. Promise. -Chyna
