Crafting a Great Enemy

In a game like ours, having a common enemy makes a huge difference. Problem was, nobody wanted to BE that enemy! So one of the game founders (a great player & Tribe fan from Israel) came up with a "Brotherhood" that slowly developed over the course of several months. Oh they were devious, this Brotherhood. Ultimately they took over the city & rained all kinds of hell down on us poor citizens. The plot gave all of us a LOT to work with in the game. In other words, it was great & really propelled the game forward.

But as I said, the idea was seeded & developed slowly as we all found our bearings & worked to develop our characters. Here are some excerpts of the threads that built up to the ultimate invasion of Fort River by The Brotherhood. 



Stormriver Camp

*Xeno stands by the fire feeling the pain around him and thinks back to his friend, the Diablo's leader, wondering if he is alive. Slowly Xeno realizes Chyna and Hawk probably think he's trouble now, after his question at the hangar. Xeno walks away from the fire and into the woods for some time alone. In the woods he sees a kid walking towards the camp* "Kid, you missed the funeral."

Brotherhood spy: "Heading there now." *rushes towards camp*

*Looking at the kid, Xeno wonders what's now in store for the city and worries about the Brotherhood who haven't shown their faces in the city yet...*

River Rats

Sid: *smiles at Breya* I have been so lost without you. For some time I lost hope and joined a tribe called the Brotherhood. That was the biggest mistake I made. They're evil. When a friend of mine told me someone had seen you, we faked my death and I left.

Warehouse

Adear: The Brotherhood is like the Golden Sail. They will come with promises, and surround our city from all sides. Before we know it, they will have control over us. They will use siblings against siblings, use tribe against tribe, to break us. We need to be strong. I believe they are here now, just biding their time. However, we can be the thorn in their back and maybe break them from within, when they take our city! *sits back down beside Rourke and looks at the group*

VA Hospital

*In the cover of darkness a Brotherhood unit sets up optic laser projectors around the hospital ground and inside on different floors. Sensors have been set and armed. Anyone who is not suppose to be here will trigger the special effects and recieve a haunting welcome! The unit disappears quietly.*

*Two guards stand posted blocking the entrance of what use to be the basement level morgue. Behind the double doors are kids screaming in pain as they go through educational training into the Brotherhood. Two more guards approach. The switch is done efficiently and quietly.*

In The Alley

*Waking up, Xeno finds himself in a dark cold place with someone he doesn't recognize. He quickly leaves the room. Inside the stairwell he sits trying to remember who he is, and slowly it all comes back to him. He realizes the girl that was in the room with him is Chyna, and she had taken care of him. Xeno didn't know what to think. He now had to get revenge on the Brotherhood, the ones who had tortured him and found out his secret. But who could he trust? Chyna came to his mind, but he didn't know her. Who else? Adear? No. Prince would help him, but how? The hospital would be suicide to break in to...*

The Brotherhood

*The brotherhood leader, called Ondeo, listened quietly to the report of the battle and of the Chyna who had taken over the survivors with her mysterious help from a warehouse. Another spy told him of the battle between Thorne and the Diablo's leader, while yet another told him of Xeno the Diablo leader's friend. Ondeo thought about this new development in the founding of the true religion. Ondeo then ordered more spies to be planted in the airport camp, and that the base should be enlarged at the train station. The rail track had been repaired, and trains would be running with the Brotherhood in other cities. Ondeo also ordered increased security. This city was one of the last cities not in Brotherhood hands. He didn't want to be seen as a failure and replaced...*

*Ondeo then ordered that Chyna and Thorne be brought to him, that the Diablo leader be found dead or alive--and if alive, be brought to him--and that the Brotherhood be informed. Ondeo then went to the morning prayer.*
