What can we say about Zoot that hasn't already been said at least a dozen times & by better writers than me?If not for the Virus, Martin might've been just an average boy growing up, competing with his brother, a normal teenager turning into a decent man.
But the Virus happened. It turned him into a fiercely independent, violent, sadistic leader and a cult figure that inspired the Chosen.
It wasn't just the Virus that changed Tristan. He was already a cult figure. The cult, and then the Virus, beat the weaknesses out of him. They left him a scarred figure of mystery & pain.Even if the Virus had never happened, there was no way our Tristan was ever going to turn into an average teenager...and probably not a "decent" man.
Unfortunately, we'll never know.
